The 26.9mm x 2.6mm Galvanised Handrail Tube is a ready-galvanised, plain-ended ERW round steel tube normally supplied to EN 10255. It is suitable for handrails, guardrails, barriers, tube-clamp systems, shop fitting, signage and general fabrication, subject to the requirements of the individual project.
This is a handrail and general-purpose nominal-bore tube. It is not scaffold tube and should not be treated as tube manufactured specifically to a scaffolding standard.

Ready-Galvanised Handrail Tube
This product is supplied to KI Metals as a finished galvanised tube and is then cut to the ordered length. It is not normally sent through the separate post-cut hot-dip-galvanising process used for KI Metals’ other galvanised steel tube products.
For this reason, an approximately 8 mm galvanising process hole is not normally required. Cutting may expose the underlying steel at the cut ends. Where continued corrosion protection is required, the affected areas should be protected with a suitable zinc-rich repair coating.
Surface Condition
Galvanising is an industrial protective finish rather than a decorative coating. Variations in colour, brightness, texture and zinc pattern, together with handling marks, drainage marks and local surface irregularities, are normal characteristics and do not necessarily indicate a product defect.

Design and Suitability

Welding and Fabrication
The tube may be cut, drilled, welded and fabricated with suitable preparation and safety controls. The zinc coating must be removed from the immediate weld area before welding, and affected areas should be cleaned and treated with an appropriate zinc-rich repair coating afterwards.
Heating or welding galvanised steel can produce hazardous zinc-oxide fumes. Suitable ventilation, local extraction, respiratory protection and appropriate personal protective equipment must be used.
